It was indeed a staunch Brahmin Village. It was not that easy to take cooked food in a non-Brahmin house. But once I did it.Such revolutionary was my Dethei was that she accepted what I did.

It has taken half a century of journey since I knowingly know my village and Jayeenani. My small and beautiful village Birakesharipur  comes in my dream whenever I  feel lonely in the crowd of big cities. Those days in late 1970s and early 1980s I used to take the train from Puri to Jankadeipur ,the station nearby my village and walk down the distance of about a kilometre from there .All together including the train journey time it was a matter of half an hour.

And ,Jayeenani was there. Some of my cousins or nephews/ nieces like Budha, Babuli,Chaga,Mitu,Nunia,Geetu , Bulu etc etc were there in the village. My teacher  Chandrabhaina, who was also my cousin was going to school in the morning and coming back in the evening. He used to write essays and poems at times. He is no more.

My elder sister used to write. My uncle and father too.But if someone with whom I could share my poetry in my family ,it was Jayeenani.

My village was the escape route of king of Puri in case of any sudden attack  from outside.May be,Lord Jagannath was taken a few times through my  village to Bhargabi river and from there to safer places on river route.I was rushing to village for an escape too and a safe refuge. Dethei (Jayeenani's  mother ) used to take care of our food.

It was indeed a staunch Brahmin Village. It was not that easy to take cooked food in a non-Brahmin house. But once I did it.Such revolutionary was my Dethei was that she accepted what I did.But she told me not to divulge it to others except Jayeenani  as the big bosses may compel me to take a holi bath.My Dadei (Jayeenani's father ) was a freedom fighter, but a Brahmin village has its own rules. However, when I went for an inter caste marriage, she and Jayeenani happily welcomed my wife and I .

One day after my marriage ,most probably in October,1984, Sudhanshu reached us,he was classmate of both me and my wife Sailabala. We used to be in a rented house .Sudhanshu gave us a pleasant news, Jayeenani and he will get married soon, may be in the next six months. If I correctly remember ,Jayeenani was teaching in Haladiapara College near Jatni that time.

``Great...but I am at Umerkote. It is 700 Kilometres from here. You need to inform me at least a month in advance..',I said. Sudhanshu was an Officer in Dhenkanal Gramya Bank by then and was soon to join a nationalised bank as a PO.

Time was the constraint.I could not join them in their marriage. Jayeenani once came to Puri to see my wife to whom she knew for years,as I was informed in due course. But how interesting it is that Jayeenani discovered me in FB  and we revived the contact. The most interesting part is,her daughter has joined my field, she did her MA in Journalism.

But time has taken out many things from her. Many new things and happenings have been added too.I will meet Jayeenani soon and find out if her lyrical poems are still there. If there ,I will help her publishing it.And if not there, she will revive her passion,it has to be.
