Odisha sign MoU with Vedanta to setup medical college and hospital in Kalahandi

NEW DELHI: Odisha government signed an memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Vedanta Group for establishment of a 500-bed medical college and hospital in Bhawanipatna, the district headquarter of Kalahandi district.nnThe MoU was signed in presence of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and state Health and Family Welfare Minister Pratap Jena.nn”In our commitment to provide affordable & comprehensive healthcare to people, my government is setting up nine new medical colleges of which two are already functional at Koraput & Baripada. Directed @HFWOdisha to expedite works on Kalahandi MCH & ensure its timely completion,” said Patnaik on his twitter account.nn”Keeping with our promise to people of Kalahandi, the medical college & hospital at Bhawanipatna is set to become a reality soon. Glad that Vedanta Limited has collaborated with us for construction of the 500-bedded hospital which will be a part of the 100-seat medical college,” he added.nnAccording to the agreement, a total of Rs 350 crore will be invested for setting up the proposed medical college, of which Vedanta will spend around Rs 100 crore.nnWhile the State government will run the medical college and hospital, Vedanta will develop the infrastructure support for it.
