BJP dislodges NCP in Pimpri-Chinchwad civic polls

PUNE (INDIA):The BJP today wrested the control of the municipal corporation of the twin industrial towns of Pimpri and Chinchwad near here from the ruling NCP, by winning 78 out of the 128 seats.nnThe saffron party thus won power in the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation for the first time.nnSeveral prominent leaders from NCP had switched the loyalty to BJP before the elections.nnThe area was traditionally a bastion of Sharad Pawar-led NCP which managed to win only 35 seats this time.nnShiv Sena, BJP’s bickering ally in the Maharashtra government, won only nine seats, while MNS won a single seat.nnIndependent candidates won in five places.nn nnSource: Press Trust of India
