Chhattisgarh Congress chief got call from man claiming to be top Maoist

RAIPUR: Chhattisgarh Congress chief Bhupesh Baghel today said that a person, claiming to be top Maoist leader Ganpathy, called him to inform that the rebels wanted to support the Congress in the coming elections.nnThis could be a conspiracy to implicate him, he alleged.nn”Last evening I got a call from a person who identified himself as Ganpathy, General Secretary of CPI (Maoist),” he said at a press conference here.nn”When I said how could I believe that he was Ganpathy, he said had anyone ever called you in the past posing as Ganpathy, to which I replied in negative,” Baghel said.nn”The person further said they (Maoists) had influence in 37 Assembly seats and wanted to support the Congress in this election, the way they had supported the BJP in the last two elections,” he said.nn”He asked me when I am going to meet him. I cut the call without replying,” Baghel said.nnThe MLA from Patan in Durg district said he told a colleague about the call, who traced it, through a mobile application, to one Ganpathy from Hyderabad.nn”I immediately reported the matter to Durg Superintendent of Police Sanjeev Shukla,” Baghel added.nnHe accused the BJP of hatching a conspiracy to frame him up.nnNaxals had virtually wiped out the state Congress leadership in the Jhiram Valley attack of 2013, Baghel noted.nn”The BJP has been trying to implicate me in several matters such as Economic Offences Wing cases, alleged land grab case, sex CD case and many more. Now they want to trap me through such calls,” he said, demanding a probe.nnDurg SP Sanjeev Shukla told PTI that police were investigating the matter.nnSource: Press Trust of India
