Orissa High Court relief to convicted IAS officer extended to August 10

NEW DELHI: The Orissa High Court today extended the relief granted to convicted IAS officer Vinod Kumar and four others in a corruption case, and asked them to surrender before a vigilance (special) court on August 10.nnThe vigilance court had last month found the five men, including the IAS officer, guilty and convicted them in the corruption case relating to the Odisha Rural Housing Development Corporation.nnBefore the lower court could decide the quantum of punishment, Kumar had approached the high court which restrained the vigilance sleuths from arresting him on the strength of the NBW issued by the vigilance court.nnThe high court had, however, directed the convicted men to appear before the vigilance court in Bhubaneswar on August 4, the date on which the special court was scheduled to decide the quantum of punishment.nnBut today, it allowed another petition by the IAS officer in which he sought a week’s time to surrender.nnJustice J P Dash directed the vigilance sleuths not to give any effect to the NBW till August 10.nnThe five men were directed to positively surrender before the special vigilance court on that day.nnSource: Press Trust of India
